BIOPUNK

A roguelike FPS vertical slice game.

Biopunk was created in a multidisciplinary team, consisting of Art, Sound Design, Programming and Producing roles.

On this project my role was: Character Artist and Producer.

For BIOPUNK we needed 4 enemies. Taking from the biopunk genre aesthetic, the team decided upon having an astronaut type character which split apart when killed, creating 3 additional enemies.

The art direction of the game was low poly reminiscent of old stylised PS1 games. As the game loop was designed to be fast paced alot of detail in the texturing was deemed unnesssary.

There was a tri count estimate of 10k for characters and a texture limit of 1k, using only the colour map. The environment was given as smaller and more constrained texture and tri limits which allowed the enemies to pop more in the gameplay.

As the four characters were all connected to one another, I reused the same texture from the original astronaut on the non modified areas on the new characters. This saved time immensely.

Once the full astronaut character was created, then I duplicated and split it apart to create the other characters as outlined in the game’s GDD.
